Glow plugs are used in diesel cars to ignite the compressed air in the combustion chamber. Petrol engines have spark plugs, but diesel engines use the heat generated by compressing the air inside the chamber with a piston to start the car. However, in cars with a large engine block or master cylinder the heat generated isn't always enough - especially on cold winter mornings - so glow plugs are used to help it along. They have a small heating element which glows (like a toaster). This raises the temperature enough to allow the diesel engine's self combustion process to take place. This means that when you turn your key in the ignition the engine will start. You should get your glow plugs checked when having the car serviced as they may need to be replaced if the heating element is no longer working efficiently. We have a full range of quaity branded NGK glow plugs in stock at low cost prices. Just enter your car's details to find the right ones to fit your vehicle.
